Oven hoods are used above kitchen cooking surfaces to ventilate the home of the byproducts of cooking. When you cook in your kitchen, contaminants like grease, smoke and odor are products. The oven hood uses a fan and a duct to ventilate these contaminates to the outside of the home.

There are also ductless oven hoods that filter and re-circulate the air back into the kitchen. They are called oven hoods because many home kitchens have a range on top of the oven where food is cooked with gas or electricity.

Oven hoods may be installed on the wall, above a kitchen island or under a cabinet, depending upon where the cooking surface is in the kitchen.
